Withdrawal

an upcoming feature film written and directed by Aaron Strand.

It tells the raw, unflinching story of two star-crossed lovers battling heroin addiction in Athens, GA. Facing rehab, they dream of NYC, but must first survive a harrowing 24-hour withdrawal. Their journey tests love and resilience, highlighting the power of the human spirit.

Inspired by True Events

Withdrawal is a classical romance told through the gritty lens of indie DV filmmaking. Shot on location in Athens, GA, it showcases local talent from Atlanta and Athens, both on and off-camera, capturing the raw essence of love, addiction, and artistic collaboration.

Status

Withdrawal is currently in POST-PRODUCTION. Our plan is to seek a premiere through the film festival circuit, and to host screenings with engaged harm-reduction communities. Our mission is for ‘Withdrawal’  to spark meaningful conversations about the opioid epidemic.

Director’s Statement

In 2013, I crawled back to my hometown of Athens, Georgia as just another statistic of the opioid epidemic.

As I got sober, I watched countless films about addiction hoping to find some solace that I wasn’t alone.

Withdrawal is the culmination of eleven years of work that began during those hard months when life seemed to stop making sense. It has been an incredible honor to tell this story and it is my deepest hope that it can do for others what those films did for me.
